Congratulations Bernd on Ötztaler Victory

Bernd Hornetz, a very early InfoCrank adopter, has won one of the most prestigious and difficult Alpine Gran Fondos – the Oetztaler Radmarathon.   After “resting” last season, Bernd has had a stellar time in the last months with an overall win at the Charly Gaul event in Trento and now this victory.

Bernd was age group World Champion on the Trento course a few years ago and also part of the winning Verve Team for our Rad am Ring (at the Nurburgring) debut the following year.

Strong riding in the break after the first climb and good team riding back in the bunch gave Bernd an unassailable 8 minute lead leading into the final climb of Timmelsjoch.  With over 30kms of climbing still to go, nothing is a given.  Bernd’s big heart and strong legs won the day though – a very worthy winner for such a prestigious event.

The Oetztaler RM is an epic event held every year starting in Soelden Austria and doing a 238km loop in and out of Austria and Italy.  5500 climbing metres make it a very long day for everyone and winning it is a career long ambition of many riders.

Well done, Bernd and all those who support you on the road and behind the scenes.  The whole Verve group is proud to be part of your team.
